Baumann's Road to Rest

On Aug. 11, Sgt. Ryan P. Baumann, 24, was laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery. Earlier in the day, a service was held at Brinsfield Funeral Home in Leonardtown. Thousands of people lined the streets from Leonardtown to the top of Charles County to honor the fallen hero on his way to his final resting place in Arlington. Sgt. Baumann, 24 of Great Mills, died Aug. 1, of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device struck his vehicle in Afghanistan. Read the story here: www.thebaynet.com

The Homecoming of Harold Stalnaker

Arlington Cemetery is the final home for more than a quarter million souls who earned the right to be so honored. Three years ago, we had the story of young man from West Virginia who was finally laid to rest in Arlington. He wasn't unknown, but he was nearly forgotten. His story is one of our favorites. It first aired May 27, 2004 on "Outlook." It was rebroadcast May 24, 2007. Once again, here's how Harold Stalnaker came home. Mike Youngren is the producer

Benefits of Using Waterless Grass for the Environment

Waterless grasses are nothing but artificial grass made from plastic which is considered to be very eco friendly, requires less maintenance and watering. The best part it that there is no need to supply any kind of manures or fertilizers which is a tiresome job and it is a very harmful for the environment when it rains, as the run off carries the fertilizes and other harmful substances present in it and they flow into near by water bodies like rivers, lakes, ponds and water tables and it slowly beings to pollute them. In this article you will see more information about artificial grasses or waterless grasses and their numerous benefits.

Installing artificial grass will tremendously reduce air pollution, you might wonder how? Yes, it is very true, when using waterless grass you need not use a lawn mover to cut or trim them. Do you know that using a lawn mover for just one hour with petrol is almost equivalent to hundred mile car drive? This fact was given by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Here is interesting information that was discovered by the researchers in Sweden. When you look at both Environmental Protection Agency which is in the United States as well as the European Union (EU) who are seeking to reduce air pollution from all non-road engines such as lawn mover; many people think that they need to fit a catalytic converter for their lawn movers to reduce pollution, but this is not true; the best and the excellent alternative is nothing but to install artificial or waterless grass which will reduce pollution at the same time reduce our daily work for maintenance.
This also another frequently asked question, the smell from the cut grass can actually be harmful for our environment?

Based on the studies made by the Academics in Australia, they have found that when lawn grass is cut, they release some kind of hydrocarbons into the surrounding and also into the atmosphere which will make even a bad smog day worst! It is high time people actually begin to check the pollution levels before touching a lawn mover. Perhaps a lawn mover could be one of the top environmental polluters! Whenever you use an artificial grass, none of the above concerns arises. Your entire home or surroundings becomes very environmental friendly. Installing artificial grass is also very easy and it is not tiresome at all, it can be easily installed on any hard surface.

Top 6 Jobs For 14-15 Year Olds

When you are 14, you may need more pocket money to buy what you like. But ,how can you earn money? so, you must get a job, not only for money, but also for experience. According to Child Labor, it's not so easy to find a job for age under 16. How to find Jobs for 14 Year Olds? if you'd like, I'll tell you the jobs you can get and how to earn money .

Teen Writer

If you are talented in writing, you could be a teen writer. And, you can get paid from magazines or websites. If you are not good at writing, you can practice writing. Write whatever you feel like writing, whether it be teen fiction or anything else. It really doesn't matter what you write, as long as you're writing.

How to start? You can try to start out writing for your school paper (articles, opinions or short stories). You could also try submitting to local writers' club anthologies & teen magazines often have a reader submissions section for poems, short stories, etc. These won't be paying jobs, but they might get you noticed. Also, if you are good at basic copywriting & layout, you can get people to pay you to prep their resumes. You'd be surprised how many people can't manage that on their own.

Babysitter

How can you get a babysitting job? it is not difficult to get one , just give it some time. Make flyers and put them around your church or community. If you have any daycares around your neighborhood you might want to advertise there. Sittercity.com is a great place where you register and parents looking for babysitters look at your profile and can contact you.

In order to be successful in the babysitting business you need to know the following tips, hints, and tricks. When you're ready to go in the babysitting business, don't be afraid to ask questions about the child you will be caring for; always be prepared. Walk through the house and do a safety check. Close the doors to rooms you don't want the children in. Look for hazards such as matches, hanging electrical cords, medications or other things children can get hurt with or get into trouble with. The most important thing is that keep an eye on the kids, and don't get distracted.

Camp Counselor

For getting a job as a camp counselor, you can try your local YMCA.They may still have openings for summer counselors or assistants. Otherwise, go to your neighborhood boys and girls club. It helps to have those certifications and some do require CPR.

Although the minimum age requirement for many camp counselor jobs is 16,but if you do not meet the minimum age requirement to become a summer camp counselor, you might have the opportunity to apply for the counselor-in-training program or junior counselor positions.

As a C.I.T. (Counselor in training), you would be working but not get paid. Or even, you have to pay for your work(not all camps). It seems very unfair, the camp charges you to work there! However,it's a great way to spend the summer instead of sitting home all day, and you will be paid when you are old enough.

Be a Tutor

If you have a good understanding of one subject, you can find a job as a tutor.Try go to your local youth center. Many youth centers pay tutors for math, English, History and Science in their after-school programs.

If you'd like, ask your counselor at school if they pay tutors for after-school programs at your school.

Also, you can advertise on your own and once you get a following the word of mouth referrals will start coming in quickly. You should advertise your offer in places where parents will see the advertisement. The parents are your clients.

Grocery Bagger

More and more supermarkets and grocery have opened up in the past decade. So, they often need many part-time or full time baggers. If you'd like, you can get extra money as a bagger.

Apply to the store or stores you are interested in working at.You can call them, and ask if they need a bagger.Of course, you can also go to store to ask one by one in person.Usually, you will find a job soon.

Lifeguard

Find a lifeguard class in your area. Most lifeguard training classes are often offered through the YMCA. If you can't find one, call your local red cross and ask them. If you can't find your local red cross, call a local pool and ask how they go about hiring lifeguards. They may have a private program. If you have a particular place you want to lifeguard, call them first to see if they have any special requirements.

The Engagement's Off and I Need to Sell The Engagement Ring!

Need to sell the engagement ring? You're not alone. Unfortunately, I've encountered numerous couples who've called the engagement off and need to sell the engagement ring in a jiffy. I've had at least four friends who have been in this situation. I am definitely a romantic but if it's not meant to be, better to know now before making a life altering commitment and realizing your mistake ten years down the road.

Nonetheless, my regrets to you if you are in this particular predicament. So what are your options if you need to sell the engagement ring?

Here's some more bad news (and don't kill the messenger please) Unless you are in the diamond business, diamonds are not an investment, particularly at the engagement-ring level....despite all the hooplah that you might hear from diamond retailers that diamonds appreciate over time, etc. Retail prices reflect a mark-up of 100 percent or more on engagement rings and white diamonds have tended to depreciate over time as they incur chips and go out of style. In other words, when you go to resell the bling, don't expect to get anything near to what you paid for it.

Well the first place most people go when they want to get cash in a hurry is the local pawn shop. You are likely to get the least amount of money via this route. The folks at the pawn shop know that you are coming to them because you are desperate to unload this bitter reminder of a once beautiful love story...and they know you want the cash and you want it right away.

A better place to try might be a jewelry store that specializes in selling estate jewelry. Shop your engagement ring around as you might get different estimates from these stores that could bring in hundreds if not thousands of additional dollars, depending on how nice the ring is to begin with.

There's always the local paper. This can be hit or miss. The odds are not in your favor as probably only about 10%-20% of those listing in the paper unload their goods. Nonetheless, you may be able to get more of your money back this way, versus selling to a pawn or jewelry shop. If you do decide to go this route, make sure to meet the prospective buyer in a well-lit public place. The last thing you need to have happen is to get mugged...you've got enough stress in your life with a broken engagement. Also, do not accept checks of any kind. Play it safe and request the money in cold hard cash, if the prospective buyer is interested in making a purchase.

Last but not least there is ebay. It's not easy to sell an engagement ring on ebay but it is possible.

If you're not getting anywhere near the price you would like, you may just want to consider holding onto it. After all, you could turn it into a beautiful pendant, bring it out on rainy days to look at, or save it for the next special person that comes along...

The author just celebrated her one year anniversary and sports a beautiful ascher cut ring. She and her husband put together the website: http://www.ultimate-engagement-ring-guide.com to help you find the perfect ring.

Killer Tips on How to Win Your Ex Back - Getting Back With Your Ex Boyfriend After He Dumped You

People who got dumped usually asked the question how to win your ex back; this only implies that they are still in love with their former lover despite of their recent breakup. If you are also facing the same scenario as many people are currently dealing with today, then read on so that you will not commit the same mistakes that many people did in the past that eventually resulted to losing their ex-boyfriend for good.

One of the most important things that you must remember if you want to learn how to win your ex back is to respect the decision of your former lover to break up with you; do not plead him to change his decision and ask him to come back. Begging the person to go back with you almost always never solve the problem; instead, tell him that if that is his final decision then you respect that, and perhaps the separation is best for both you because it can give you the space each one of you wanted to have.

You can also make an apology for your own mistakes that led him to decide to break up with you; make sure that you only do it once so that you will not look desperate enough as if you are trying to beg him to change his decision.

One of the best ways to solve your problem on how to win your ex back is to move on with your life. Remember an old song that goes 'let him go; and if he comes back in time, then you are meant for each other.' That verse is actually true until today; let your ex-boyfriend go and start moving on with your life by going about your normal daily activities.

Go out with your classmates, office associates and close friends and spend some bonding moments with members of your direct family; they can greatly support and help you out in our current situation. If the hurt feelings is making it hard for you to go on, start joining support groups and civic organizations or even volunteer for charity works because these activities can aid you in keeping your mind off your current problem and your former lover.

Your greatest enemy at this point is your mind because it will keep haunting you with your past memories; hence, you have to control it or exert some efforts to divert the thoughts that will only trigger the pain of your wounded heart. Moreover, you can also do your own hobbies or start finding new ones because doing things that appeal to your interests and enjoyment can help you a lot in your moving on stage because your mind is busy thinking on things that excite you.

Aside from that, you should also make yourself beautiful by visiting your favourite beauty parlor and tell your beautician to give you a complete makeover and enhance the way you look to make you more attractive with the opposite sex. If you are currently so much in love today, your love radiates and attracts people of the opposite sex; hence you are attractive to guys right now because of your love.

However, always remember that if you want to win your ex back you should NOT start dating with another guy because this will make him jealous enough to eventually dump you for good. But, if he is already dating another woman then that is the time that you should also date another guy; just do not initiate the move. There are still many things that you can do; the ones mentioned herein are just few of the effective methods of solving your problem on how to win your ex back.

To know more about what other women did that made them successful in winning back their ex-boyfriend despite of being dumped; check out the proven methods that work which will show you the step-by-step process of pulling your ex back.

Alexandria, Virginia

Alexandria, Virginia was once called the most beautiful city in the Colonies. Just North of the train station at King Street is the George Washington Masonic Memorial, modeled after the Lighthouse of Alexandria (one of the seven wonders of the ancient world).

Maggie was sore after the hill climbing at Arlington and wanted to rest. I took a personal tour of the main floor of the Memorial. George Washington was the Grand Master of this chapter of the Masons. When he laid the cornerstone to the capital, he was in Masonic garb and used his Masonic trowel. This is the home of the Andrew Jackson Lodge and the George Washington Lodge. The main hall is spectacular, reminding me of the Parthenon in Athens. Instead of Athena, a statue of Washington dominates the hall.

A tour of the upper floors was to begin in a few minutes. Maggie still wanted to rest and told me to knock my socks off. On the tour I went. On the second floor is a room dedicated to Washington, which hold many of his personal effects, including the family Bible. On the upper floors are rooms dedicated to different aspects of Masonry: the Knights Templar, Tall Cedars, etc. At the very top is an observation walk with views of DC and the environs. The tour lasts well over an hour. By that time it was not only late, but we were also tired. Walking Alexandria would have to wait.

The Old Section of Alexandria features the boyhood home of Robert E. Lee. Even in Colonial times this city was an important shipping port for the New World. Many buildings still stand from this era.

One of the more interesting of the buildings is Gadsby's Tavern. Traveling back and forth to Mt. Vernon, a three to four hour journey by carriage, George Washington, frequented the tavern on a regular basis. Archeological excavations reveal the ice well, fifteen feet below street level, where ice cut from the Potomac River was kept for summer consumption.

During the Civil War, Alexandria was immediately occupied by Union troops because of its strategic location. They stayed throughout the war. In modern times torpedo manufacturing was a primary industry. Today the factory is an art center, housing many artist studios. A designer torpedo for you?

Finding other moms to hang out with is essential. Not only is it a great socializing tool for your children, but it is so important for you. With involved members and a very active calendar, we hope you will find the encouragement, advice and support you're looking for. Our activities are geared toward 2 to 5 year olds and will be held in Centreville, Fairfax, Clifton, Herndon/Reston and Vienna.

I'm relatively new to the Arlington area, and a semi-new mom to a 16-month-old girl. I'm constantly looking for ways to keep my daughter entertained and me sane. My blog follows me on the journey to go out and play in Arlington, VA! http://gettingoutinarlington.wordpress.com/

Long Commute = Low Home Value?

NPR had an interesting story earlier this week about the connection between commute time and home values. Not surprisingly, the story featured examples from the Washington, DC metro area (I guess their reporters tend to stay close to home...).

It seems that while home prices for the entire DC Metro area declined some 11% last year, there was a distinctive pattern to the local variations within that data. Ashburn, located about 40 miles west of downtown DC saw average prices fall around 18% in the same time period, while in DC itself, home prices increased by about 3%. Close-in suburbs like Arlington and Bethesda have seen similar increases in their average prices. It seems that people are beginning to realize that there are tremendous trade-offs to living farther out and spending an hour or more every day in traffic. Some of these trade-offs are intangible, like time spent with family. Others are quite tangible and can be measured in dollars. With gasoline approaching $4 a gallon ($3.75 at the Texaco up the street from where I type at this very moment), the difference between a ten mile commute and a 40 mile commute is really starting to add up.

This is one very important part of why Orange line condos in Arlington have been holding their value so well even as the market seemingly became saturated with condos over the last five plus years. Arlington has done an award-winning job (literally) in managing its increased density without the increase in traffic that many predicted. In fact, Arlington saw an increase in population between 2000-2005 of something like 5% with almost no increase in traffic counts on major thoroughfares during the same time. The existence of a well-established public transportation network explains this seeming incongruity. As does the fact that most of the new housing built during that time was located very near this network.

The fact that people are less and less willing to spend half their day in the car has started to change development patterns nationwide. Atlanta, the poster child for sprawl in the 1990s has seen edge construction decline by something like 70% in the last few years while downtown building holds steady. This pattern is repeated throughout the country, especially in eastern cities that had seen major erosion of their downtown housing stock - places like Baltimore and Philadelphia.

There are bigger, more complex social developments that are part of this shift, of course. Average household size continues to decline nationwide and there are more and more people living alone. These people do not typically seek out the expansive lawns and quiet cul-de-sacs that typify exurban living. Instead, they look for opportunities for human interaction on their street, they want to be able to walk to conduct most of their daily activities and they don't need a large basement or a fifty foot hedgerow to do these things.

Avoiding Problems With Your Next Electrical Job - Choosing an Electrician

For the majority of people getting started on an electrical project is a complete nightmare. There are things that you can do to help ease the pain of getting started though. Aside from hiring a quality electrical contractor, you need to also take the time to fully prepare yourself for the job that you expect to be done. This should include having clear expectations of what you want done, a full contact and all materials worked out in advance. Many people think that buying materials themselves will save time and money; however, this is generally false because of the complications that it can involve. Avoiding these problems is quite simple and you are going to learn exactly how to do it.

Your first line of defense against problems is a clear contract. It should spell out exactly what you are going to be paying, and exactly what you can expect to receive in return. You should also look to ensure that contact information is included in the contract as well as information on how you can go about getting in touch with the company in the event of a dispute. The contact should also spell out clearly all payment terms. This would include any periodic payments due upon completion of specific stages of the job, the approximate date of those completions and any other specific details that will impact the contract and payment terms.

You should also discuss materials very carefully. If you are looking to have lights and such installed then you are likely to have some very specific ideas in mind about what you want. While these specific ideas are great, it is best to just discuss them with the electrician and allow them to actually purchase materials. They can often get discounts, as well as they carry the burden of ensuring that all of the parts are included. Any materials that you purchase are your responsibility to ensure that all parts are present. Avoiding this by just allowing them to purchase the materials is best. Provide a detailed list if you have specific items that you are interested in though since this can make it much easier to ensure you get exactly what you want.

Avoiding these problems is quick and simple, but will require thinking ahead. Taking the time to cover all of these aspects before the job actually begins will allow you to get the results that you want, without any major problems or complications. Just remember, things do sometimes take longer to complete than expected, if you find yourself in this position, you should feel free to take your time and carefully adjust your expectations and discuss all problems with the electrician that you choose to avoid confrontations and unresolved misunderstandings.

After all, North Georgia is home to the apple festival, scenic Blue Ridge Mountains, and breath-taking spring foliage.

Spring in the North Georgia Mountains begins early, bringing new life in March and as early as February. Enjoy North Georgia's exquisite display of dogwoods, azaleas, wildflowers, and mountain laurels as butterflies and hummingbirds visit the colorful and fragrant flowers. Ellijay's expansive apple orchards are blooming with aromatic and beautiful apple blossoms as the days become warmer and longer. The best thing to do is to take the time to plan before-hand for any miscellaneous activities you may have in mind.

As mentioned earlier, Butternut Creek, Whitepath, and Brasstown Valley are available for public play. Butternut Creek Golf Course is one of the area's finest public golf courses. Butternut Creek is surrounded by the majestic beauty of the North Georgia Mountains and features 6,536 yards of dramatic fairways. Experience the thrill of playing this mountainside course with 18 of the best holes in the northwest Georgia area. White Path Golf Course features 18 holes on a beautiful and challenging mountain golf course, with a driving range and practice green available. The golf course is open to the public; however, memberships are also available to Gilmer County residents and out-of-towners. Brasstown Valley Golf Club offers a spectacular mountain golf experience with scenery as breathtaking as the play is challenging. The club has been ranked by both Golf Digest and Leading Golf Courses of America as one of the top courses to play in Georgia. The golf course winds through wildlife preserves, ponds and streams framed in by the mountains. With four sets of tees, all skill levels will be able to enjoy a layout that is maintained to standards you'd expect from a course rated so highly. The facility also offers full practice facilities, Pro Shop, and lessons / clinics.

Heidi Montag's Engagement Ring and Wedding Plans

Reality television is full of beautiful people but one of the most talked about has to be Heidi Montag. Heidi first gained national exposure on the MTV reality show Laguna Beach, which followed the lives of Lauren Conrad and other teenagers living in the Orange County, California community. Heidi took center stage during the show's spin-off series, The Hills, which followed Conrad as she moved to Los Angeles. Although Heidi appeared in only a couple of episodes of Laguna Beach, it was enough to make her a main cast member of its spin-off. And it was on the set of that show that she met Spencer Pratt. The two dated throughout the show's second season and the season finale even included her moving out of Conrad's home and moving in with Spencer. This change clearly put a strain on her relationship with Conrad and moved the show's focus off just Lauren and onto how the two former best friends were dealing with the divide.

In May 2007, Heidi and Spencer seemed to be taking their relationship to a new level by announcing their engagement. Spencer presented her with a gorgeous ring from Ice at Brentwood Gardens where they went shopping for the ring earlier in the day. The ring's platinum band is encrusted with diamonds. Instead of a traditional diamond, Heidi chose a pink stone for the ring. The engagement took place on a Monday night at the Bacara Spa & Resort in Santa Barbara. Spencer went very traditional wit his proposal: he even dropped to one knee.

Unfortunately, the joy of the engagement was short-lived. Less than a month later, reports were beginning to surface that the engagement was a fake - a publicity stunt intended to net some cash for the couple. According to some reports, the couple was able to earn $30,000 just for posing some photos and sharing the story of their "engagement" with one tabloid. Although those criticisms may seem harsh, the engagement - real or not - didn't last forever. Instead of setting a wedding date, the couple broke up in front of their audience on the season finale of The Hills in December 2007.

While the public break-up should have been the end of the story, Spencer has been very outspoken about his desire to rekindle the romance and maybe to continue the engagement. He may be getting the chance he's been wanting. Reports surfaced in June 2008 that the couple had recently taken a secret trip to Mexico together. During the trip, Spencer read passages to Heidi from the Bible and supposedly they both exchanged their feelings of love. Don't start planning for an MTV wedding special yet though. Heidi isn't convinced that Spencer's feelings are from the heart. She claims to be waiting for some bigger prove of his feelings - something beyond a gorgeous engagement ring. Whether the couple will ever become re-engaged (or engaged for the first time) or married remains to be seen, but there's no doubting Heidi has great taste when it comes to rings.

The author just celebrated her one year anniversary and sports a beautiful ascher cut ring. She and her husband put together the website: http://www.ultimate-engagement-ring-guide.com to help you find the perfect ring.
